Synopsis:

Historian and broadcaster Michael Wood traces the life of William Shakespeare in the first full scale biography of the bard on British television. Using interviews and dramatisation with actors from the Royal Shakespeare Company, the film brings both his works and his life and times to life. Stories of his tax dodging and court cases create a picture of the man but ultimately, as the film posits, the true Shakespeare is to be found in his plays.

A four-part series for the BBC and PBS.
