This one day workshop explores how to go about setting up a factual shoot both in the UK and abroad. Concentrating on identifying locations and dates, hiring and working with a crew, how to keep within the budget, as well as an opportunity to discuss your own production.
Aimed at:
Independent Filmmakers looking to manage their own productions
Production Co-ordinators, PAs and APs wishing to upgrade their skills
Directors/Producers wanting to develop in-depth knowledge of Production Management
Newcomers wanting to enter the field of production
Production management is an essential component of any film covering the legal issues, the production process, budgets and paperwork. Whether you are shooting an independent production, or using an extensive crew and multiple locations, good production management will help you think about your film – and how feasible it really is.
The
Setting Up a Shoot
Workshop
will consist of a combination of seminar, discussion, viewing material and practical exercises designed to engage and develop participants' knowledge and skills. Time will be dedicated to both UK and overseas shoots. Aspects you'll cover include:
Hiring and contracting crew
Finding locations
Drafting a schedule
Call sheets and establishing a flow of information
Providing maps and directions
Guidelines for keeping within shoot budgets
Delivery paperwork – who is responsible and what should be brought back
Liaison on shoots
Applying for visas and filming permissions
Baggage and equipment
Health and safety checks for particular places (including hostile or volatile locations)
