This two-day course introduces participants to Final Cut Pro, and is designed specifically for those wishing to edit news and current affairs features. You will learn to perform a range of editing functions while familiarising yourself with FCP software and the broadcast news industry workflow.
Broadcast news editors work with deadlines that are the most demanding in the field. To help you meet those deadlines and learn to use Final Cut Pro at the same time, this course focuses on the essential features that you need to get your stories cut quickly without sacrificing quality.
Over the two days of the course you’ll get tips for efficient set up, customisation, and trimming techniques. You’ll learn the best methods for making audio adjustments, how to use common transitions and effects, splice in tight sound bites, cover narration with B-Roll footage, and prepare a story for delivery.
The course consists of seminars and practical exercises which guide you through essential elements of editing and using Final Cut Pro including:
basic setup
adjusting and customising preferences
non-linear systems
hardware
interface
capturing video and audio
working on the timeline
working with audio
various Editing and trimming techniques
generating titles
In addition students will learn the following news editing techniques:
mark breaking news footage on-the-fly
accessing tapeless media files
editing voiceover
employ shuffle edit techniques
build skeleton packages
filling content with a B-Roll
utilising natural sound in the edit
split-screen, cropping and masking techniques
blurs, highlights, and white balance fixes
meet tight broadcast technical guidelines
