Interviewing Techniques for Documentary

This workshop focuses on giving you the necessary skills to conduct and approach interviewing in and for your documentary film.

Good interviewing techniques are fundamental to successful documentary practice. This workshop is aimed at documentary researchers and directors who wish to improve their interviewing skills and learn this all-important, but often neglected craft. Using examples from film and television participants will be introduced to a range of different interview techniques, and through practical exercises and demonstration you will explore the core skills involved in this process.

Topics include:
  • The golden rules of open questioned interviewing;
  • How to prepare an interview so that your questions will not be heard in the final product;
  • How to bring the best out of your subjects;
  • The difference between interviewing styles.
