The 2007 Sundance Film Festival opens in Park City, Utah

Crossing the Line Crossing the Line The festival got underway yesterday with Brett Morgen's documentary Chicago 10, about the events surrounding the 1968 Democratic Convention in the US, when Vietnam War protestors clashed with police. Morgen - director of The Kid Stays in the Picture - mixes animation with archive, the film recreates the story of the protests and the infamous trial that followed.

Highlights include My Kid Could Paint That, Amir Bar-Lev's film about child art prodigy/ elaborate hoax Marla Olmstead, while Academy Award winner Steven Okazaki (Days of Waiting) revisits the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the aftermath with White Light/ Black Rain.

In the World Documentary Competition, the result of filmmaker Dan Gordon's latest trip to Korea - Crossing the Line - screens in competition. The story of James Dresnok, a private in the US Army who defected to North Korea at the height of the Cold War, is a portrait of the last man standing: the only American defector still living in North Korea. Crossing the Line was the Surprise Film at last year's Sheffield DocFest, where it screened to a packed audience and a great response. Gordon's previous films include The Game of Their Lives (about the original members of the 1966 North Korean World Cup Team) and A State of Mind , following two young gymnasts in North Korea as they prepare for the Mass Games.

A full list of the documentaries in both competitions is below.
