State of the World to premiere at Director’s Fortnight

State of the World, produced by Luis Correia (LxFilmes) and Noe Mendelle (Scottish Documentary Institute) is one of the 23 feature films selected for this year’s Director’s Fortnight at Cannes. State of the World is a collection of six directors, six regards on the state of the world. Their cross-over creates a new space for a dynamic, radical, inquisitive reflection, a space to defy the future. The world premiere will take place on Thursday 24 May 2007, 5pm.

Directors’ Fortnight programs a selection of films from around the world during the Cannes Film Festival. It is distinguished by the independent judgment displayed in the choice of films, the “cinéphile” standards and the accessibility to non-professional audiences at the festival.
  • Luminous People by Apichatpong Weerasethakul (Thailand) already known in Cannes for Blissfully Yours (2002) and Tropical Malady (2004) and whose work has now been banned in Thailand.
  • Germano by Vicente Ferraz (Brazil) director of Soy Cuba (2004)
  • One Way by Ayisha Abraham (India) video artist
  • Brutality Factory by Wang Bing (China) directed 9 hour documentary West of the Tracks (2003)
  • Tarrafal by Pedro Costa (Portugal) in Cannes last year with Juventude em Marche
  • Tombée de nuit sur Shanghaï  by Chantal Akerman (France) La-bas (2006) her latest documentary in Cannes out of a long list of international productions.
The film was funded by Portugal's Gulbenkian Foundation to mark its 50th anniversary.
