Sheffield Docfest Calls for Sky One Development Prize Entries

The Sky One Development Prize at the Sheffield International Documentary Festival (Doc Fest) invites production companies to pitch a factual entertainment series idea for primetime Sky One. The winning pitch will receive £5,000.00 to research and develop the series for possible commission.

To enter, production companies should submit a proposal to Sky One directly. Proposals must be for original factual entertainment series ideas. Proposals may also be for a returnable formatted series such as award winning Brainiac or Vroom Vroom or a constructed documentary series such as hit show Big Ron Manager. The subject matter should appeal to a primetime Sky One family audience and winning ideas will be original, witty and disruptive. Applications should think about exactly who their target audience is and how their idea would fit into the Sky One evening schedule.

Entry Details
The competition is open to any production company. Individuals without the support of a production company are not eligible to enter. Entries should not be longer than 3 sides of A4 and should outline the format, if relevant, potential talent or access and a clear idea of a typical programme in a series.

Send all submissions to Nicky Cox at the address listed here.

Five finalists will be announced at the Sheffield International Documentary Festival on Friday 3 November at the Sky One Reception. All production companies who are registered at the Sheffield International Documentary Festival will be invited to the Sky One Reception.

The chosen five finalists will pitch to a panel of Sky One commissioning editors at in front of an audience of festival delegates. The winner will be announced at the end of the session.

Remember: Submissions are still being accepted for The MeetMarket, an innovative marketplace event, where up to 25 selected projects will get the chance to meet buyers and commissioners attending the festival in a supportive, structured environment.

Deadline for applications is Monday 11th September.
