Royal Television Society Awards - Winners Announced

The 2006 RTS Programme Awards were announced in a ceremony last night at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. Hosted by Mark Austin, the evening was the latest chance for the industry to pat itself on the back.

Florence Ayisi and Kim Longinotto's multi-awardwinning film Sisters in Law came out on top once again, winning the award for Single Documentary and earning praise from the judges: "In a very strong field, ... this programme was one of the freshest and most genuinely revelatory the jury had seen for years. It was ground-breaking in every respect and offered a real and fascinating insight into a subject very rarely given airtime."

DFG Films' Holloway Hairdo lost out to the Inside Out film Iceman, but so did Charlie Brooker's Screen Wipe (in the Digital Channel Programme award), so the team were in good company.

Other winners included BBC's Planet Earth in the Science and Natural History category, and Wall to Wall's Who Do you Think You Are?, which was awarded the Best History programme.
