The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the 15 films in the Documentary Feature category that have been longlisted for the 79th Academy Awards. This is from a pool of 81 films that qualified for consideration.
The films range from mainstream successes such as An Inconvenient Truth, the Al Gore/ climate change doc released in the UK earlier this year, to festival favourites Blindsight, Jonestown: The Life and Death of People's Temple and The Ground Truth. Also up is Oscar-winner Barbara Koppel's latest film Shut Up & Sing, an observational film following UK country band the Dixie Chicks in the tumultuous period after they criticised George Bush live on stage at a gig in Shepherds Bush.
For UK audiences, the great news is that Florence Ayisi and Kim Longinotto's much-loved and awardwinning Sisters in Law is in the list.
