New resource launched for finding screen composers
New resource launched for finding screen composers
A new network has just launched with the aim to showcase the best of the UK's emerging composers for screen. The Screened Music Network will unite its composers with media professionals around the world. Its founders call it "a unique and exciting project, as the composers are auditioned by a panel of leading industry experts working in film, television and music." The network, which launched in May, currently has around 20 composers and new composers are admitted at the end of each month.
The network has been created to make it easy for directors and producers just starting out, or not attached to big budget productions, to find good composers without having to pay expensive agency fees or wade through hundreds of demos. Users can search the website for composers by genre, and read what the panel thought about their music and what the listening members thought too. While there is no footage on the site at present, every piece is given a visual context for which the music was composed.
Users can join for free and can also upgrade to a Pro Member for a small annual subscription fee. Pro Members are able to contact the composers, attend events and can opt to have a listing in the Members Directory. The network is touted as an extremely useful collaborative community for UK talent.
