Documenta Madrid Announces Line Up for 2007
Documenta Madrid Announces Line Up for 2007
The 4th annual Documenta Madrid has chosen 101 for competition and boasts a variety of themes in its screenings.
The films to compete are seperated into four categories. 56 films have been selected for the Original Documentary Section comprised of 18 full-length films and 38 short films. 25 have been chosen for the Documentary Reporting Section and 20 in the National Competition comprised of 8 full-length films and 12 short films.
The fourth category, Avid Xpressate/HP Marathon, employs filmmakers of the films selected in any of the three competitive sections in a two day filmmaking marathon. Directors will have a thirty minute tape and will be given a theme with which they will have to make a short film. They will have one day to use the equipment and personnel support from Avid to edit the film. The short films will then be screened at one of the different competition venues.
Throughout the 9 days of the festival, Documenta Madrid will explore the incursions into the documentary genre by specific Spanish directors from the field of fiction film. It will devote a complete retrospective to the work of the Austrian Ulrich Seidl, a unique chronicler of the decline of present day society, documentary and artistic work that he began in the 90s. It will continue on last years "Michael Moore and Contemporaries II" including films from the late 90s through to the present day that have become paradigms for documentaries being produced today in the USA. Finally, it will take the spectators through screenings covering the places where wine is made and guiding them with formulas for enjoying and combining it, according to professionals from other countries. This portion, accompanied by expert presentations and wine-tasting courses, will act as an introduction into sensory pleasures enjoyed when tasting a good glass of wine.
