Current TV launches in UK with competition
Current TV launches in UK with competition
Current TV, the US network famed for having Al Gore as its chairman, is arriving in the UK. To mark its arrival on these shores, on 12th March, the company is organising a contest to find viewer-created content (VC²) by young people in the UK.
First launched in the US, Current is heralded as the first network in history to hand control to its audience via Viewer-Created Content, voting for programming content and even viewer-created advertising; the UK channel will run on the same model. Current will be available on BSkyB in March 2007.
Competition Details
Pods (short video pieces) can be submitted to the Current website (
www.uk.current.com
) where a panel will select their favourites. These can be shot on video camera or mobile phone, and can focus on one of three categories: a person, a place, or a thing, but must be non-fiction. Content can then be uploaded via a simple mechanism on the Current TV site.
As well as appearing on the Current service, three grand prize winners will also win lunch with the chairman himself, former U.S. Vice President, Al Gore. In addition, six runners-up will receive a Sony HD video camera, and the first ten people to upload their video submissions will win a video iPod filled with Current programming. Current UK goes live on 12th March.
All submissions must be uploaded to
www.uk.current.com
by
8th
April 2007
or mailed to the Current UK office by
11th April 2007
. Current will select one grand prize winner and two second prize winners in each category, and will announce all winners by May 15, 2007.
Production is already underway on a series of shorts produced by
DFG Films
, exclusively for Current TV. More details to follow soon.
