The FourDocs Mediabox Competition is open to anyone aged between 13 and 19 years old, with the chance to win £500 to make it over the summer!
FourDocs and Mediabox are inviting young people between the ages of 13 and 19 to think up an idea for a short documentary about something they care about, and win £500 to make it. As part of the My Mediabox fund, filmmakers are invited to write 200 words about what you would make a documentary of under 5 minutes on if you won the money. Submit it on the Mediabox website - and the best 10 will each win £500 to make it over the school summer holiday.
Winners will first be invited to come to a workshop in Channel 4's headquarters in London, where filmmaking experts will guide them in making their film, before receiving a £500 budget to go and make it. The winning 10 will all be shown on the FourDocs website, with one overall winner then being broadcast on Channel 4 itself later in the year.
The winners will also receive help when making and editing the film. Applicants who have never made a film before are encouraged to apply.
Eligibility
There's a few criteria to check on before entering this competition. FourDocs are particularly interested to hear from people who aren't able to find places to go and things to do in their local area, or those who feel that they wouldn't normally get the chance to do something like this.
Entrants also need to make sure that they and a parent, guardian or other adult are available to attend a workshop on Thursday August 9th if one of the 10 winners, and have time to make the documentary during August.
Go to the FourDocs/Mediabox page and see more info.
Ideas for a documentary can be about absolutely anything, but remember that it needs to fit into the timeslot of between 3 and 5 minutes so it needs to be limited to a subject you can explore well in this time. The Make Docs section on the FourDocs website has a series of guides to help applicants out.
Email fourdocs@channel4.com for help and advice on the process.
The deadline for entries is Monday 16th July.
