Call for Entries: moves08
North West-based moves is the largest exhibition platform in the UK for screen-based work exploring ‘choreographed movement’ in the form of dance films, interactive installations, animation, videogames and experimental shorts at international level.
moves08 will showcase a three-day conference on the interaction of movement and sound in screen-based work, twelve international screenings including a North West showcase, a five-day filmmaking lab, a four-day filmmaking masterclass in Salford, Manchester and Lancaster, live events and installation(s). Through its ‘Discovery’ strand, moves08 will, for the first time, give a special place to students and emerging artists.
moves is now accepting submissions for features, shorts and documentaries with a special focus on movement made in 2006, 2007 and 2008 only.
The festival takes place from
22nd - 28th April 2008
and the submission deadline is
1st February 2008

moves08 is now inviting submissions for papers and lectures addressing interaction between choreographed movement and sound in screen-based work.
Possible papers may include, but are not limited to:
Scoring for film or video (emotion, speed, environment, etc)
The history of abstract sound and movement (Oskar Fischinger, Len Lye, Moholy-Nagy, Futurist cinema, etc)
Digital Art (Video games, interactive systems, machinima, etc)
Visual instruments (VJ software, Max/Jitter systems, etc)
The science of sound and movement (synaesthesia, attention, mirror neurons, etc)
Online sound and movement (Second Life, Flash instruments, etc)
Audio-visual interaction (sound-image mapping, gestural control, etc)
The festival will publish a selection of the papers from moves08. The form of publication depends on the result of current funding applications. However, we are now only requesting outline proposals of 500-1000 words.
