The Distribution Forum is a new initiative at the Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival this year. The Forum is a part of the professional platform running in conjunction with the festival.
The distribution forum has been initiated to enhance distribution possibilities for independent documentary filmmakers and to facilitate early pick-up possibilities for international sales agents, festival programmers and buyers.
The festival's aim is to make a selection of new, creative film projects and works-in-progress well on their way into the international market. The projects will be featured on Project Cards and in an online catalogue, accessible exclusively to invited buyers, distributors, commissioning editors, acquisition executives, sales agents and festival programmers three weeks prior to the festival.
A personal schedule with pre-arranged meetings, providing one-on-one pitching opportunities, will be coordinated by the industry office staff according to the attending professionals' wishes. The schedules are mailed out to forum delegates prior to the event. During the forum days, informal morning jam sessions will be held daily. The jam sessions are creative and visionary talks, touching on distribution themes related to the projects featured in the catalogue, inviting all forum delegates to get inspired and share their knowledge and insight. Furthermore, the seminar program presented on the same dates, will elaborate on current distribution issues.
The deadline for entering a project for consideration to the Project Catalogue is 03 September 2007. All feature length (52´+) documentary film projects with international potential and an expected release before November 2008 are eligible. A selection is made by a committee of professionals after which selected projects are invited to participate in the forum.
There is no entry fee for the catalogue, but once a project has been selected, one representative should be present during the market days.
