Manchester and the North-West
North West-based moves is the largest exhibition platform in the UK for screen-based work exploring ‘choreographed movement’ in the form of dance films, interactive installations, animation and experimental shorts at international level.
moves experimental short film and new media festival explores new ways of telling stories through fiction and documentary and will celebrate its fifth anniversary in April09. The festival presents work in usual and unusual screening contexts: from cinemas to bars, from the public BBC Big Screens to Lightboxes in tramway stations. moves09 will include 11 international screenings, a series of open source forums, exhibitions and interactive installations in public spaces throughout the North West, live events crossing over between screen-based work and other disciplines such as poetry, a 5-day filmmaking lab and will provide the industry and audiences with an online resource centre from December.
Submission Details
Submitted work must have been completed in 2007, 2008 and 2009 to be eligible. moves09 will only show UK Premieres. Films submitted to the festival must explore movement (not necessarily not dance) and must not have been shown in Manchester before. All shooting formats are accepted, exhibition prints must be mini DV; selected filmmakers will be required to submit a copy of their work on mini DV. Non English-language films must be subtitled in English.
