cph:dox
Copenhagen
7th - 16th November 2008
One of Scandanavia's largest documentary film festivals, screening films from all over the world. It also awards in three categories: the cph:dox Award, the Amnesty Award and the New Vision Award.
CPH:DOX Award;
the main competition programme for feature length documentaries.
Amnesty Award;
for documentaries focusing on human rights issues.
New:Vision Award;
for documentaries experimenting with the documentary genre. New vision award is divided into feature length (50 minutes or longer) and short films (less than 50 minutes).
Sound & Vision Award;
for documentaries focusing on music, bands, music genres, and/or a specific use of music.
The organisers express their aims as being, among other things, to "break away from mainstream and present new and innovative documentary film", to "integrate the various artistic means of expression encompassing art film, electronic music, media art and live performance" and to "stimulate intelligence, political awareness, curiosity and tolerance".
DOX:FORUM 12 - 14 November 2008
Launched successfully in 2007, DOX:FORUM is a new international meeting place for film professionals focusing on high quality, artistic and visually strong documentary films.
DOX:FORUM is launched to explore other distribution possibilities for documentary films than TV and focuses on theatrical as well as alternative distribution venues ranging from museums and galleries to online platforms.
DOX:FORUM introduces an exclusive selection of brand new and almost finished documentary films to the market, and invites a range of distribution platforms to pitch themselves to the documentary industry. Current trends, challenges and opportunities are discussed at DOX:FORUM seminars, and one-on-one pitching opportunities are arranged throughout DOX:FORUM days.
With a participant list counting major international theatrical distributors, sales agents, curators, festival directors, programmers from alternative venues, buyers from non-profit and educational outlets and representatives from online platforms, DOX:FORUM offers an excellent opportunity for filmmakers to position their upcoming documentary on the international market.
Submission Guidelines
Submission to the Festival is open to short and feature length documentaries, experimental documentaries and innovative visual documentary productions for digital media. There is no entry fee.
The Festival gives priority to world and international premieres; films that have already been shown in Copenhagen or on national Danish television are not eligible for the competition programmes unless specific authorisation has been given by the CPH:DOX selection committee.
Films should be submitted on DVD or VHS, and screening formats are 35mm, 16mm, Beta SP, Betacam, Digibeta, DVcam, DVD. Presentation of other formats and video systems requires the authorization of the Festival. All video formats must be PAL. Films not in the English language must be subtitled in English.
