Zanzibar
13th - 23rd July 2006
The ZIFF Festival of the Dhow Countries is East Africa's largest
cultural event and takes place in Zanzibar around the waterfront of
Stone Town. The festival celebrates the unique cultural heritage of
Africa and the Dhow countries of the Indian Ocean region and their
global Diaspora.
The Festival promotes an extensive programme of films, music,
performing arts, literature, exhibitions and workshops. The
Festival also includes events in selected villages of the Zanzibar
islands, Unguja and Pemba.
The international film and video programme is
the centrepiece of the festival. Film and video productions can
compete for the festival's Dhow Awards. ZIFF invites submissions of
film and/or video productions for the festival programme in both
competition and non-competition categories.
The theme for this year's
festival is Sails of History; Citizens of the
Sea. Built around this working theme the
festival will examine maritime culture and history, issues of
citizenship and artistic expression inspired by sailing and the
sea.
