Tampere International Short Film Festival

One of Europe's largest short film festivals, including a well-regarded domestic and international competition for animation and documentary.
The International Competition awards the festival Grand Prix, as well as prizes for the categories of Best Animation, Best Fiction and Best Documentary. The Prix UIP Tampere also nominates the winning film for the European Film Awards. There's also a Finnish Competition with a Main Prize and a Special Prize in the categories of Under 30 minutes and Over 30 minutes. All films in both categories of the Finnish Competition are eligible to compete for the Risto Jarva Prize and for the Resource Award. Furthermore, an Audience Award and several Honourable Mentions will be presented in both the Finnish and the International Competition.
The winner of the Grand Prix of the International Competition and the winner of the Main Prize in the category of Under 30 minutes of the Finnish Competition will also be eligible to compete for an Academy Award nomination in the Short Film category.
Films submitted to the International Competition will also automatically participate in the selection for the films in the LAB1O competition. LAB1O is a special competition for films that develop new solutions and are creative in a new way, it views and displays works that boldly reside in the frontiers between film, visual art, photography and technology.
Submission Guidelines
The competitions are open and free for all who want to submit a film for the preview. All films and videos of all genres not exceeding a length of 30 minutes are eligible for entry. Films must have been completed on January 1st, 2007 or after. The selection will be made on completed productions. In exceptional cases the Festival reserves the right to accept films of longer duration. Films which have been shown or awarded at other international film festivals are allowed to compete.
A film market for accredited professionals will be open during the Festival. All the preview copies are automatically entered in the film market selection and made available for individual viewing unless stated otherwise in a written instruction to be submitted to the festival by February 6, 2009.
