There are myriad reasons for the Melbourne International Film festival's iconic domestic status. At the forefront is an unwavering commitment to artistic integrity, to brave and dynamic programming, and a firm belief in stakeholders and audiences to recognise and support this vision. The Festival also receives incredible levels of in-kind support from corporates to small businesses and from many individuals.

The festival accepts features, documentary, shorts (fiction, animation, experimental, student production) and new media. Requirements include 16mm, 35mm, Beta SP. Entries must have been produced during the 16 months before festival and must not have previously screened in Victoria, Australia. Short films in competition must not exceed 30 minutes running time, with the exception of short documentaries which must not exceed 60 minutes running time. Shorts compete for share of total prize money of $35,000. Fees are $40 for short film entry, contact festival for details of feature entry
