International Festival of Resistance
Loix, Ariège, Midi-Pyrenees

Summer 2006 sees the 10th edition of this film festival that celebrates resistance movements world-wide. Set in the Pyrenees - mountains that have sheltered resistance groups from the Cathars to the Spanish Republicans forced out of Spain after the Civil War by Franquist Fascists - the setting provides the perfect background for debate and analysis on how to prevent elites from having a monopoloy on power.
With 105 films screening, 4 themes and 8 debates the festival has a large number of documentaries that screen alongside fiction films.
This year's films are screening under the following themes:
'Dirty Money'
'The Car Against Nature
'Art Ignores the Poor'
'The Trap of the Family'
The 2006 event will open with Palme d'Or winning film The Wind That Shakes The Barley by Ken Loach.
Submissions for the 2007 Festival can be made from 1st November 2006 until 1st March 2007.
