Hamburg International Short Film Festival
4th - 9th June 2008
Hamburg
The Hamburg International Short Film Festival is organised by the Hamburg Short Film Agency and is intended to serve as a meeting place for both filmmakers and film lovers. It gives the public the chance to watch short films, discuss the ideas they present and to meet the people who made them.
Both the Festival and the Agency see the short as an art form in its own right which derives its enormous artistic and aesthetic potential from its relative independence from the film industry. Consequently their aim is to support the short film in as many ways as possible. To this end, the Short Film Agency organises the festival, keeps an extensive archive with a database , provides several services, and sells and distributes shorts throughout the year.
Competions and Awards
- International Competion: There are three prizes to be won: The Hamburg Short Film Award (3000 Euros), the Francois Ode Award (1500 Euros) and the Audience Award (1500 Euros);

As a part of the German programme the best short films from Hamburg will receive their own Jury and Audience Award (2000 and 1500 Euros) sponsored by the Hamburg Cultural Foundation;
- NoBudget Competion: Audience Award (1500 Euros) and Jury Award (2000 Euros)

- Mo & Friese Children's Film Festival: The Mo Prize and the Friese are both worth 1250 Euros and are going to be chosen by a jury consisting of children.
Besides our regular competions two additional prizes will be announced. The German broadcasting companies ARTE and ZDFdokukanal will each select a film that they are going to buy and broadcast. There will be an additional award for the best national and international soundtrack.

Films must be entered for one of the competitions outlined above. However, should the need arise, the selection committees reserve the right to assign it to another competition or special programme. The festival accepts films with a running time of under 20 minutes, except for the Three-Minute Quickie.
Completed entry forms must be sent with the preview copy and stills to the festival office by the submission deadline stated. If possible, a VHS video copy should be submitted for preview purposes (PAL or NTSC). Other video formats (S-VHS, Betacam SP PAL, DVD, Mini DV PAL or DV Cam PAL) and film prints will also be accepted. The same applies for screening formats. If the original language of the film is neither English nor German, the preview copy should be subtitled in one of these two languages. Otherwise an English or German dialogue list should be sent with the preview copy.
