Finnish Annual International Festival of Visual Culture (Viscult)

Joensuu

27th September - 1st October 2006

Viscult, the Finnnish film festival is held in Joensuu, located near the Russian border in Finland, and introduces ethnographic, anthropological and documentary films.

This year, Viscult is looking for films about urban life and about everything created by the urban environment: subcultures, cultural diversity, conflict and conflict resolution, unity, rural versus urban.

The event is personal in nature, the majority of filmmakers present to introduce their work, encouraging discussions of the films, film-making, and culture. It also works closely with the University of Joensuu and its students.

The festival uses modern technology to bridge geographical obstacles and to our knowledge is the first film festival in the world that streams all content - films and discussions alike - live on the Internet all over the world. This brings great possibilities for promotion of the filmmakers, the producers, the distributors etc.

Film content is ethnographic, anthropological and documentary. Student films are very welcome.
