Fespaco - Pan-African Film and Television Festival

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso

Thanks to efforts of a few serious film enthusiasts, FESPACO was founded in 1969 in Ouagadougou. Due to the admiration and hope that it inspired amongst the general populace and filmmakers alike, the festival became an institution by governmental decree on January 7th, 1972. It is a biennal festival starting the last Saturday in February every odd year.

Open to all African film-makers including émigres. Features, documentary, video, magazine programmes. Format requirements include16mm, 35mm, VHS tapes (only for television/video competition or film market). Entries must have been produced during the two years before festival. Awards include Competition of exclusively African films, Grand Prix for best work of festival, various other prizes. There are no fees for this festival.
