Exposures National Student Film Festival

Exposures is a unique, national showcase for the very best student filmmaking in the UK. Lasting four days, the festival takes place every December at Cornerhouse in Manchester. As well as selecting, showing and awarding the best new filmmaking across five categories - Drama, Documentary, Animation, Experimental and Music Video - it also hosts a range of masterclasses, premieres, workshops and discussions - all designed to further young British talent.
Each year key figures from film and TV are invited to the festival to inspire and advise: previous guests have included Michael Winterbottom, Alex Cox, Danny Boyle, Frank Cottrell Boyce, Russell T Davies, Tim Firth, Deborah Moggach, Emily Woof, and many, many others. There is also the underexposed strand - specially dedicated to young filmmakers from the North West, international short film showcases, and overexposed - a showcase of independent North West filmmaking generally (open to non-students).
You are eligible for the competitive categories - animation, drama, documentary or experimental if you made your film during the full academic year that ends this summer studying in the UK for a degree or other higher education course. You do not need to have made your film as part of the above mentioned course. Films must be under 15 minutes long, unless a documentary in which case they can be up to 30mins.
Films can be shot on VHS, miniDV, DVD, AVI, flash, betaSP, Digi Beta or film. VHS’s are preferred for the initial submission (for the selection process), but students selected for festival will be contacted a week after the submission deadline for a higher quality version for projection – either the original version or, if the original format was film, a miniDV or DVD copy. For projection, miniDV is always best, and VHS the least desirable.
