Formerly Raindance East Film Festival, this festival accepts films made by filmmakers living, working or studying in East London; films that were produced or post produced in East London, or used East London locations; films that reflect the cultural diversity of East London's communities. Student East accepts films made as part of a filmmaking course by students fitting the above criteria.

In this instance East London includes the London Boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Enfield, Greenwich, Newham, and Waltham Forest.
