Dubrovnik International Film Festival

Dubrovnik, Croatia

4th - 8th October 2006

From 4th - 8th October 2006, Dubrovnik will once again host filmmakers, actors, artists, musicians and visitors from around the world for the annual film festival. Many consider Dubrovnik one of the most beautiful places they've ever travelled to. It is home to a rich cultural scene and a discerning public.

The very first International Dubrovnik Film Festival opened in May 2003 and has since grown with each year. The Dubrovnik Film Festival 2005 honoured Christopher Walken and Peter Medak with the Libertas Award and Emily Watson received the Argosy Award. In previous years DIFF honored Branko Lustig, Deborah Kara-Unger and Jonathan Tucker.

Awards at the festival:

Libertas Award

Libertas Award™ is given to an individual whose work embodies the spirit of extraordinary achievement. The Libertas flag was flown on ships from Dubrovnik when it was known as the Republic of Ragusa. It also represents a famous Dubrovnik writer's words - "For no amount of gold should your freedom be sold".

Argosy Award™
Argosy Award™ brings attention to and encourages an outstanding individual in the realm of filmmaking. Argosy is a variation on the word RAGUSEA, the historical Italian name for Dubrovnik. Argosy ships were rich cargo-bearing merchant ships from the Republic, and were also mentioned by Shakespeare in his body of work.
