An international competitive festival, screening the best of that year's documentaries from around the world.

The international competition awards The Documentary Film Award of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation and the Outstanding Documentary Film. There is also the Horizons programme, with films from Africa, Asia, Latin America, countries of the Near and Middle East and the Commonwealth of Independent States. The Horizons Award is dedicated to directors who - often against all financial and/or political odds - have created documentaries which boldly engage issues of human rights, social justice, the environment and sustainable development. The regional showcase screens new films from Bavaria.

The festival accepts submissions of 50 minutes and over. Early deadline is November, with the final deadline in January. For submission details, see the festival website.
