CAN Short Film Festival Leicester
This year the CAN short film festival celebrates its tenth
anniversary at The Phoenix Arts Centre, Leicester.
Last year saw nearly 300 films entered from 20 different countries.
The 50 best of these were screened in competition over three
evenings at the Phoenix Cinema, with another 30 worthy of special
mention projected in the cinema lobby. Over 600 people attended the
Festival from all over the country, including the film directors
themselves, local dignitaries and regional arts
organisations.
Awards include Best in Festival, Audience Choice, Best Performance,
Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay, Best Sound
and Best Editing. Last year's winner of Best in Festival,
El Descampado directed by
Pedro Toucedo, has gone on to win a raft of awards from Best
International Film at the Hull Short Film Festival, to a Special
Prize for Best Film at the New York Short Film Festival. This shows
how both the quality of entrants to CAN, and the Festival's
national and international standing, just keep improving.
The submission period for films to be entered into the 2006 Can
Film Festival is open from 1st April - 1st August 2006. The
festival accepts films of all genres and lengths up to 15 minutes
including titles and credits. Submissions are welcome from all over
the world, local, national and international, to showcase them at
the Phoenix Cinema on 27th, 28th and 29th October for the biggest
and best film festival in the East Midlands.
Submission closes on 1st August 2006. There is no limit to the
amount of films a person can enter, and submission is deemed as
permission to screen. Films can be submitted on VHS or DVD.
