The AIDC is a three-day programme of seminars, marketplace events and workshops discussing all aspects of documentary. Marketplace opportunities include:
Australian DOCUmart - a one-day pitching/co-financing session to pitch your idea to a panel of potential broadcasters and investors.
MeetMarket - if your project is selected it is made available to every buyer attending the Conference. Buyers then ask to meet with the producers they're interested in. During the Conference scheduled one-on-one meetings will be organised on buyers request.
Pitch & Punt - Looking for development money for your project? If selected, you get to pitch your idea to buyers who, after a healthy public Q&A session, may take a punt and help develop your idea.
A broad spectrum of the industry attends the conference from filmmakers, commissioners, industry suppliers, funding agencies, broadcasters, distributors, co-financiers, journalists, educational institutions and students.
AIDC 2008 will have a special focus on storytelling because telling stories is the core business of our industry. Western Australia, home of some of the oldest living storytelling traditions in the world, is the perfect location to look into the parameters of a good story.
The conference will focus on the different elements of storytelling in the media production process. Through a number of sessions the roles of collaborators in the creative process of filmmaking are investigated from the angle of their contribution to the story. The director, the writer, the producer, the editor and the commissioner all contribute to the final story. Master classes, craft sessions and discussion panels around the central theme of storytelling will be programmed throughout the conference.
