Synopsis:

An exploration of the 'maison close', Parisian state brothels set up by Napoleon and in existence until 1948. Interviewing women who worked in the brothels and using archive footage of films shot and screened in them, the film also looks at how the existence of a state-controlled sex trade was an essentially French condition, now lost.
