The South Bank Show presents a first ever documentary about the legendary but reclusive photograher and filmmaker whose work reflects his life in an unflinchingly honest way. Shot in New York and Nova Scotia where he now lives, it interweaves between Frank aged 80, reflecting on a lifetime of image making including his seminal work The Americans and the richly textured photographs and personal films themselves. The film also explores his relationship with his wife, the artist June Leaf, working with the Rolling Stones, and the tragedy of losing both his children.
