Deepa Shastri was a baby in India when her parents found out she was deaf. Fearing she would be treated as an outcast, they brought her to the UK. Twenty five years later she goes back to India for the first time to meet the family she hardly knows and discovers the truth about her own deafness. As her journey of discovery widens, she meets young deaf people in India whose experiences she could have shared, giving her a powerful and moving sense of the very different life she almost had.
