Synopsis:

Courtesy of the British Film Institute Courtesy of the British Film Institute
A filmic survey of leisure pursuits in Northern England and Wales, including a male voice choir and a colliery brass band.

With a subtle commentary by Laurie Lee, the film is similar to Jennings' wartime work such as Diary for Timothy, with its use of subtle editing techniques, which he referred to as associative editing.

The film also reflects Jennings' fascination and involvement with the Mass Observation project, an anthropological survey of the British people.
