Synopsis:
Between the spring of 1994 and the summer of 1995, William Raban
filmed on the streets of the East End of London. The film contrasts
the everyday lives of people living there with the actions of right
wing extremists. Raban used only pictures and sound, with no added
commentaries, in order to give the audience the necessary space for
them to draw their own conclusions about the English national
identity in the mid 1990s. Island Race is part of the 'Under the
Tower' trilogy.
