Synopsis:
McAllister's film for Channel 4's True Stories strand explores the
settlement issue in Israel through the eyes of a Palestinian, Ali
and an ultra-Orthodox Jew, Dov. The release of Palestinian
prisoners, the Israeli government granting land to the Palestinians
and the ongoing settlement of Jews in Arab Muslim areas form the
backdrop to the two unforgettable subjects. Rather than an
academic-style approach, McAllister's focus is on the common, human
things that audiences can relate to, and the fragmented
Israeli/Palestinian society is mirrored by the emotional
unravelling of both men, as their personal demons threaten to
destabilize the fragile truce they have made for themselves. While
both Ali and Dov hope for peace, reminders of war echo in their
voices and in the streets.
