Synopsis:

Michael Wood presents an adventure following the route of Alexander the Great from Greece to India linking ancient and contemporary history. Having set off to conquer the world in 335 BC, the voyage of Alexander the Great covered more than 22,000 miles in ten years. Travelling by jeep, bus, truck, train, retired Russian ambulance and occasional lifts in helicopters, the film crew discover that some parts of the world are still completely inaccessible to anything but the feet of camels, mules, horses or occasionally humans.

They cross post-Gulf War Iraq and enter Afghanistan during the rise of the Taliban. They cross the Great Sea of Sand, the Great Salt Desert and the Desert of Death and climb some of the highest mountain passes in the world.
