Synopsis:

In the early 16th Century the Spanish Conquistadors reached the shores of the new world. Five hundred years later they were followed by Michael Wood and his film crew. Filmed over two years, this series traces how a group of determined men from Spain overcame - and in fact systematically destroyed - two of history's greatest civilizations: the Incas and the Aztecs. Trekking through South American deserts, mountains and tropical forest, Wood investigates their mark that is still visible today.

A four-part series for BBC/ PBS.
