Synopsis:
Chaplin's Goliath is a film about Eric Campbell, the tall actor who was most famous for playing the archetypal villain for Charlie Chaplin's Tramp character. Using rare footage, historical documents and interviews with Campbell's daughter and noted Chaplin experts such as David Robinson, this documentary leads us through Campbell's early childhood in Dunoon, Scotland, to his tragic and untimely death in a car wreck in December 1917. Writer/director Kevin MacDonald and producer Fran Robertson trace the fascinating story of this memorable cinema villain, who featured in Charlie Chaplin's most famous short films made for the Mutual Film Manufacturing Company in 1916-1917, including Easy Street, The Immigrant, and The Cure.
