Synopsis:
The first feature-length drama of Scottish documentary-maker Kevin
Macdonald, The Last King of Scotland is based on the fictional
novel by Giles Foden of the same name, but nonetheless contains
elements of historical fact. A Scottish doctor, when on a Ugandan
medical mission, becomes irreversibly entangled with Idi Amin, one
of the world's most barbaric figures. The newly self-appointed
Ugandan President is impressed by Dr. Garrigan's brazen attitude in
a moment of crisis and makes him his personal physician and closest
confidante. Garrigan is both flattered and fascinated by his new
position, but soon becomes acutely aware of Amin's savagery and his
own complicity in it. Horror and betrayal ensue as Garrigan tries
to right his wrongs and get out of Uganda alive.
