Kim Longinotto has, from the beginning of her career, diligently
and persistently pushed the boundaries of the viewer's knowledge
and concience, bringing them into contact with the women who live
andstruggle on the fringe. The microcosms that Longinotto records
in countries such as Japan, Kenya and Iran for the most part are
characterised not only by contempt for human rights but moreover by
frequent oppression-sexual, political and social. She approaches
these issues with courage and zeal combing
anthropological elements with her restless instincts as a
documentary film maker. She gives the women she films a chance to
share their experiences.
